Old Computer

Attach an external storage device (such as a thumb drive or portable hard drive) to the original (old) computer. From the Quick Menu of Tax Processors Plus Desktop select:

  • Configuration
  • Configuration Utilities
  • Copy Configuration to Disk -
    • Select the drive letter assigned to the external device.
    • If desired, create and/or navigate to the subdirectory where you'd like to store the backups.
    • Enter the name of the backup file. It's best to include the year in the name to help distinguish it from other backups. For example, if you're backing up the configuration for the 2024 program you can call it "2024config".
    • Click Save.

When the configuration files are finished copying to the selected drive you will see the message "Configuration Successfully Backed Up".

New Computer

After copying the configuration, remove the storage device from the old computer and insert it into the new computer. Then, from the Quick Menu of Tax Processors Plus Desktop select:

  • Configuration
  • Configuration Utilities
  • Restore Configuration from Disk
    • Select the drive letter assigned to the flash drive, and navigate to the backup file.
    • Select the backup file to open it.
    • In the Select Components to Restore window, click Ok. (All components should be checked unless you know of a specific reason to uncheck one and exclude it.)
