Why is the 1040-X Original column blank?

Online · Written guide Content date 1 min read

When creating an amended return in Tax Processors Plus Online, the program fills in the Original column of Form 1040-X if two things are true:

  • The original tax return was e-filed through Tax Processors Plus Online and accepted by the IRS (and thus we know what the original return looked like).
  • The original return has been printed (and thus you have a copy to refer to in case of a problem).

If either of those things is not true, the program won't autofill the Original column and you will need to enter the original return's amounts in Form 1040-X.

For each field that needs an entry, if you're not certain what amount enter, click the "Where is this located?" link above the field for more information about that field.
