How Do I file an Application for Extension of Time to File for Georgia?

Desktop · Written guide Content date 1 min read

Georgia allows an automatic six-month extension if the taxpayer receives a federal extension. Enclose federal Form 4868 with the Georgia return when filed (Tax Processors Plus Desktop will do this when the return is electronically filed).

If a federal extension is not needed, use Form IT-303, Application for Extension of Time for Filing State Income Tax Return, to request an extension of up to six months. Use Form IT-560, Extension Payment Voucher, to pay any balance due.

To complete Form IT-303, from the Georgia Tax Return Menu select:

  • Miscellaneous Forms
  • GA Extension of Time to File (IT-303)
  • Enter Extension

To complete Form IT-560, from the Georgia Tax Return Menu select:

  • Miscellaneous Forms
  • GA Extension Payment Voucher (IT-560)

Note: Electronic filing is not supported for the state extension or state extension payment. The federal extension and extension payment may be sent electronically, however the state forms will have to be mailed.
