Verifying Your EFIN e-File Application Information

Software reference · Written guide Content date 2 min read

The IRS requires software providers to validate the EFINs of EROs who will be transmitting returns electronically using their software. This verification process helps the IRS safeguard the e-filing process. However, you should also implement practices to maintain, monitor, and protect your EFIN. See here for more info.

Keep your IRS e-Services information up to date. Compare the information on your EFIN Application Summary (EAS) with the office details in Account Hub when reviewing the following items.

  • The firm's legal name and/or doing business as (trade or company name) on your EAS matches the Company Name in Account Hub.
  • The Primary Contact on your Account is listed on your EAS as a Principal or Responsible Official. The Primary Contact should be the Owner listed on the EAS for sole proprietorships.
  • The IRS Tracking Number and EFIN on your EAS match the tracking number and EFIN in Account Hub.
  • The EAS lists the relevant EFIN Status as Active.
  • The EAS indicates "Accepted" for the Provider Option Status for the Electronic Return Originator Provider Option.

To comply with IRS requirements for EROs, you must provide a copy of your EAS to Tax Processors Plus. Follow these steps to access your EAS:

  1. Go to www.irs.gov and select Tax Pros in the top right corner.
  2. Select Access E-Services. Then scroll down and select E-file Provider Services (located toward the bottom of the page, under e-Services Applications).
  3. Select Access e-file Application and log in using the option that pertains to your account.
  4. Verify the online security information. Select Continue.
  5. Choose your organization (You may be asked to agree to updated Terms of Service after selecting your organization). Then, choose the icon to View/Edit.
  6. Select Print, then save your summary as a PDF.

After saving the EAS, confirm the approved submission method with Tax Processors Plus support before sending it.
