Tax Processors Plus Online is Tax Processors Plus Online's cloud-based tax preparation software. It allows you to prepare your clients' tax returns in your web browser most anywhere where there is an internet connection.
Because the program is browser-based, here are some "best practices" to help ensure smooth running and avoid common problems.
Clear cache if you're having problems
If a menu isn't behaving the way it should or you're seeing errors, clearing the browser cache is a good first step that often resolves the problem. See here for more information on how to do this in several different Windows browsers. (You only need to clear cache, not cookies and history.)
Use the program in one browser tab only
Have Tax Processors Plus Online open in only one browser tab, not multiple tabs. You can have Tax Processors Plus Online open in more than one browser, e.g., Chrome and Edge, but use only one tab in each browser.
Exit the return when you're done with it
If you're in a return but are finished working in Tax Processors Plus Online, always choose Save & Exit rather than just closing the browser or, if you're working on a laptop, closing the lid. Choosing Save & Exit allows the return data to save properly and helps avoid errors.
Log out when you're finished with the program
Log out of Tax Processors Plus Online when you've finished your work, rather than just closing the browser or, if you're working on a laptop, closing the lid. Doing this helps avoid errors.
Avoid Safari on a Mac
If you're working on a Mac, while some preparers are able to use Safari without any issues we sometimes find that Safari isn't always compatible. Tax Processors Plus Online works best in Chrome or Edge.
On a tablet, use the desktop site
If you're working on a tablet, use the desktop site rather than the mobile site. Depending on the platform and browser, you may be able to configure the browser to always request the desktop site when using Tax Processors Plus Online. Requesting that the browser open the desktop site is done in the browser's settings menu.
